Montrose Point is generally accepted as the best birdwatching spot in the city, especially in the "Magic Hedge," a wooded area crisscrossed with walking paths.Over 300 species have been seen here, including some rare ones. In the summer of 2019 birders and non-birders alike were galvanized when a pair of endangered piping plovers made the adjacent shoreline their nesting spot, resulting in two healthy chicks.
