Situated on the North Branch of the Chicago River, LaBagh Woods is noted as a destination for walkers and hikers seeking a pocket of nature in the urban environment, but it's also a hotspot for birding. As part of a years-long improvement project, invasive species are being removed and replaced with native shrubs that are more supportive of local and migrating bird species. Sightings have included the orchard oriole, the Caspian tern, and the eastern screech owl. Visitors have also spotted red foxes and minks.
