This tour delves into learning about Chicago’s rich literary history, as it is extensive, starting from the realism that developed alongside the Industrial Revolution with the likes of Upton Sinclair and Theodore Dreiser, to its role in the Black Renaissance. As rich as Chicago's literary scene was in its past, it also has a contemporary thriving literary scene as well. In order to cover as much as possible, this tour highlights the role of libraries and literary centers. Check out the archives in the Newberry Library, learn from the Chicago exhibit in the American Writer’s Museum, or attend an event at the Poetry foundation to discover Chicago’s modern poetic heartbeat. We also highlight famous author homes, as well as one of the largest public libraries in the world.
