This aptly named bar, located off of a once-industrial stretch of Elston Avenue, is a mainstay of the Chicago music scene for its eclectic roster of acts as well as its homey neighborhood vibe. Once a humble boarding house for nearby workers, the interior is still low-key, especially the back performance area with its wood paneling and holiday lights. The bar offers everything from cheap beer to microbrews to the “Wooden Leg,” a cocktail that’s not for lightweights. The friendly bartenders and down-home vibe draw a mixed crowd of musicians, artists, and regular folk. Stick around for a performance and you'll probably catch one of co-owner Tim Tuten's legendary intros.
